TARZAN
GRADE: B

Solid middle-of-the-road effort from the Disney studios is a sensitive take on those old lord-of-the-jungle standards. The thrilling 3-D effects never quite mesh with the hand-drawn visuals, but lend the film a speedy athleticism that suggests extreme sports in the Magic Kingdom. The characters -- especially pointy-jawed Tarzan (voiced by Tony Goldwyn) and even token comedian Terk (Rosie O'Donnell) -- are pretty darned likable. Only gets seriously derailed whenever Phil Collins opens his mouth for another pandering, literal-minded pop song.
