Critics who assume that the filmmakers got paid for this are wrong; according to a Chicago Tribune story, none of the corporations would pony up to have their logos placed in the film. That's not uncommon, in movies or elsewhere. Sega, for instance, didn't get any money for peppering its Crazy Taxi videogame with references to Tower Records, Levi's and KFC (but Josie and the Pussycats does contain product placements for Sega's Crazy Taxi and Space Channel 5).
