Duck Amuck (1953)

[****]

Not just one of the greatest shorts from the estimable Looney Tunes library; not simply one of the finest pieces of animation ever created; but quite honestly one of the world’s great pieces of cinema. In less than 10 minutes, director Chuck Jones subjects Daffy Duck to an enervating theoretical tour of the movies. The denouement is a brilliant twist of the celluloid, as this expertly realized ‘toon folds back in on its own legacy, and Toontown finds itself at odds with the world outside.
