DRY CLEANING
GRADE: B-
Miou-Miou and Stanislas Merhar.

Thick with blue-collar ennui, Anne Fontaine's engaging but routine French relationship drama has androgynous blonde stranger Loïc (Stanislas Merhar) coming between the Kunstlers, igniting sexual passion in wife Nicole (Miou-Miou) and kindling insecurity in husband Jean-Marie (Charles Berling). The love triangle doubles as a surrogate family, with Loïc apparently only able to deal with the people close to him by fucking them. The relationship is never fully convincing, however, and the film can't settle on a single point of view. Well-photographed and edited regardless, and buoyed by the presence of Miou-Miou, the charming sprite of French cinema for the better part of three decades.
