When I was a kid, I never understood why no one called All
That Jazz a classic. This Bob Fosse musical followed Roy Scheider's
obsessive dance choreographer through life and love, as viewed
in an astonishing set of musical numbers (if you care, Paula
Abdul swiped one of the concepts for a music video). The whole
film climaxes as Scheider goes into cardiac arrest, with a
bunch of dancers in grotesque skin-tight heart outfits singing
along with him in a major musical number: "Bye Bye Life."
Amazing stuff -- cool, cruel, and brilliant.
